Installation

Use the browser on your Arkenstone. No USB debugging or computer connection is needed.

1. Download the APK.

Open varggps.pages.dev on your Arkenstone and tap Download APK. Wait for the download to finish.

Download APK
I’m on another phone or computer

Open this same page in the browser on the Arkenstone, then download there. This page provides the APK; it does not install through USB.

2. Open the downloaded file.

Open your browser’s Downloads and tap the file starting with varggps and ending in .apk.

Android asks me to allow installation

Tap Settings, enable Allow from this source for the browser or Files app, then go back to the installer. You can turn this access off afterward.

I can’t find Downloads

In Chrome, open the three-dot menu and choose Downloads. Or open the Files app and choose Downloads.

3. Install and open VargGPS.

Tap Install. When it finishes, tap Open. The app currently appears as Varg GPS Test.

Android says “App not installed”

Check free storage and that your device supports ARM64. An existing version with a different signing key may also block installation. Export important tracks before changing installations. Keep Android’s security checks enabled.

4. Complete Ride setup.

In VargGPS, follow Ride setup to grant the access you need and choose your dashboard. Download the map data and your riding region while connected to the internet.

Which permissions do I need?

Location follows your position. Picture-in-Picture keeps the map floating. Notifications shows session controls.

Google Maps extras are optional: Display over other apps and Usage Access control the return button. Accessibility enables the optional auto-enlarge helper on Android 12 or newer.

Ride setup checks the current access. Return there if Android revokes a permission.

A few details

Google Maps and floating-window size

Google Maps uses its own location and Picture-in-Picture permissions. Active navigation is required for its floating map. To return full screen, tap the floating map, then Expand.

The optional auto-enlarge helper needs Android 12 or newer and Accessibility access. It checks window identity and size, attempts one double-tap on a small Google Maps PiP after a dashboard handoff, then checks the result. It does not read or save map text. A gesture can interrupt an ongoing touch. Manual resizing remains available.

Android blocks the optional Accessibility setting

If your Android version shows “Restricted setting,” open Settings → Apps → Varg GPS Test → More → Allow restricted settings, if available, then return to Accessibility. Only do this for the APK you trust. This helper is optional.

Test build and updates

This release is bench-tested on Android 14, uses a public test signing key and still needs Arkenstone and real-bike verification. A production build may require a separate installation. Export important tracks before changing builds.

Map regions download in the app. There is no bike telemetry or Bluetooth integration.
