Experimental software. Set up while parked. VargGPS is a beta navigation companion, not a safety system. Maps, floating windows and app switching can fail. Keep a backup way to navigate and export important tracks.
About this beta
These terms describe the VargGPS website, Android beta and optional Auto-enlarge companion. The current beta download is free; it does not include a subscription to any other app. Features, downloads and support may change or stop. Compatibility with every phone, Android version, dashboard or bike is not guaranteed.
The Android launcher currently calls the app Varg GPS Test. The APK uses a development signing key, not a dedicated production signing identity. A future production version may require a separate installation. Back up exported tracks before changing builds.
Riding and device safety
Configure the app and permissions while stationary in a safe place. Do not touch the phone or adjust floating windows while riding. Keep dashboard warnings and essential controls visible. If an overlay obscures them or behaves unexpectedly, stop safely and close it.
Follow road signs, local laws, trail restrictions and actual conditions. A route shown on a map is not permission to enter private land or ride a trail. Position, navigation and track recordings can be inaccurate or unavailable. VargGPS is not for emergency navigation or safety-critical decisions.
VargGPS does not connect to the bike or change its firmware, power settings or controls. Stark and VargPilot manage their own bike connections. Bike-connected behaviour and riding transitions have not completed real-bike acceptance testing. Screenshots show a simulated test dashboard and location, not proof of real-bike performance.
Offline maps and tracks
Download the overview map and your riding regions before going offline. Downloads and updates need internet access, storage and may incur your network provider’s charges. Offline use still depends on device power and, for your position, available location signals. Map data can be outdated, incomplete or incorrect; check conditions independently.
The built-in map engine is adapted from CoMaps. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL), with additional sources credited in Licences and credits. Downloading maps does not transfer ownership or remove attribution and redistribution obligations. Those licences, including any applicable share-alike requirements, govern reuse of the data.
Imported tracks must be yours to use. Track files can reveal sensitive locations; review them before sharing. Exported files and copies shared with others are outside the app’s control. Offline regions in VargGPS are separate from offline downloads inside Google Maps.
Google Maps, dashboards and optional access
Google Maps integration opens the Google Maps app installed on your device. It does not embed, resell or provide Google’s map service. Google Maps requires its own permissions and is governed by Google’s Maps terms and privacy policy. Navigation, connectivity and Picture-in-Picture availability are controlled by Google Maps and Android. In testing, Google Maps needed active navigation to enter Picture-in-Picture.
The floating Varg App button uses optional overlay and Usage Access permissions. Auto-enlarge is a separate, optional Accessibility companion; manual resizing works without it. Android or device security may restrict these features or installation. A successful Play Protect scan on a tested device is not certification or a guarantee for other devices. You need your own legitimate access to Stark or VargPilot, including any account or subscription they require. VargGPS does not grant access to paid features or alter their terms.
Independent project and intellectual property
VargGPS is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, sponsored, endorsed or approved by Stark Future, Google, VargPilot / RapidFusion, CoMaps or the OpenStreetMap Foundation. Product names, trademarks and screenshots identify compatibility and the apps shown; their respective owners retain their rights. No partnership or official status is implied.
Open-source software and map data remain governed by their own licences. See the Apache licence, upstream notice and component notices. These terms do not restrict rights granted by those licences or mandatory law, and do not claim ownership of third-party code, data or artwork.
Availability, warranty and responsibility
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the beta is provided as available, without promises that it is error-free, uninterrupted, accurate or fit for a particular purpose. Bugs may cause failed downloads, lost recordings, unexpected app switching, battery use or data loss. Evaluate it in a safe setting before relying on it.
To the extent permitted by law, responsibility is excluded for losses caused by inaccurate third-party maps, unavailable third-party services or use contrary to these safety instructions. This is not a waiver of liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including any applicable liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, death or personal injury, or mandatory consumer rights. These terms do not override those rights.
Updates to these notices
Material changes will be described on this site with an updated date. Review the notice relevant to the version you install. Privacy practices are described separately in the privacy notice.
